The Growing Leaves Music Competition
The Growing Leaves Music Competition (GLMC) is an online only classical music competition for the growing musician of all instruments up to the age of 16 around the world. It is open to solo and chamber groups. Our goal is to encourage and provide growth for the budding musician to the blooming artist.
- Age Division (age at the time of audition)
Seed – up to age 7
Bud – ages 8 to 12
Bloom – ages 13 to 16 - Each participant must submit one piece of their choice.
- Accompaniment is not required, but recommended.
- No time limit for the video.
Although not mandatory, we highly encourage memorization of all repertoire except for contemporary music, wind instruments and chamber groups. For best results, please shoot the video in landscape mode (wide, not narrow). We must see all important physical movements pertaining to your instrument.
Applications
Deadline for application and YouTube video submission: June 5, 2023
When applying for more than one instrument, each requires a separate application. If in a chamber group, each member will have to apply individually. All applications must be submitted together with the non-refundable application fee for proper processing. We will accept only YouTube videos.
Application fee:
- $80 (solo)
- $60 (each member of chamber group)

Results and Awards
Winners
Winners will be chosen from all instruments within their respected age category. Multiple or no winners may result in each of the age categories and instruments upon discretion of the judges. Comments will be sent via email and judges decisions are final. Please respect this policy. No Winners’ Concert will be held this year.
Cash Prizes
There will be cash prizes awarded to the top winners and all winners will receive a certificate by mail (USA only) and PDF certificate (non-USA address). Top winners will also be recognized on our website and social media platforms.

Eve Cho Green, Violin (KMS Capital Prize)
Eve Cho Green, from Leonia, NJ, is seven years old. She is a pleasant and bright music lover who, from the age of six, has continued her Violin studies with Mr. HyunJoon (Terry) Shin. Eve really adores and appreciates a variety of sound characteristics created from Violin, and tries to pay attention to her own sound to better her playing. As a beginner, Eve wishes to grow as a promising young violinist, whose brilliant technique grows into artistic maturity.

Madison Lee, Violin ( KMS Capital Prize)
Madison Lee, age 12, lives in New York City and graduated Hunter College Elementary School and is entering Hunter College High School from this fall. She has been studying Violin with Ms Jung Won Yoon at New Jersey Music School since 2015. She won the Bronze Prize in Sung Jung Music Competition in Seoul in 2017, 2nd place in American Protégé International Piano & Strings Competition in 2018, 2nd place in Camerata Artists International Concerto Competition in 2018 and Grand Prize in International New Artists Competition Grand Prize in 2021 in Seoul. She has performed in many places throughout New York City including Bruno Walter Auditorium in Lincoln Center and in Seoul. She will be performing Mendelsshon Violin Concerto in e minor 1 st movement with Sejong Chamber Ensemble in Ceramic Palace Hall in Seoul in August.

My name is Joshua Kim. I am 11 years old and I attend the Fort Lee Intermediate School. I have been playing the cello for almost a year. My cello teacher is Isaac Park. I love to drink bubble tea with him. My favorite sport is soccer.

Jenny Yun, Viola (Main Violin Prize)
Jenny Yun is 14 years old violist from Austin, Texas. She began studying viola in 6th grade. Throughout her middle school years, Jenny was a member of the Texas Music Educators Association Honor Orchestra, Texas All-Region Orchestra, and the Austin Youth Orchestra, where she was a principal violist in 2021. She is an upcoming member at the Westwood High School Symphony Orchestra and has plans to make it into the region and state orchestras in her freshman year of high school. Her hobbies include reading, drawing, and gaming.

I was born in 2005, grew up in Korea, and started learning cello 5 years ago; I am currently residing in Texas and will attend Creekside High School as a sophmore in the incoming school year of 2021.

Maryanne Park, Violin (Main Violin Prize)
Maryanne Park, a rising junior, performed Symphonie Espagnole by Edouard Lalo for the 2021 Growing Leaves Music Competition. With nearly 7 years of experience playing the violin, she also plays in her high school orchestra. In her free time, she likes to sing, read, and code. Maryanne would like to thank her parents and her violin teacher, Ms. Minhee Bae, for their encouragement along her musical journey.
